Revisionism in Comics (Nacha Vollenweider)

“History is also part of the present. (…) Thus history can offer irreplaceable aids to orientation and understanding and thus again provide the basis for shaping the future. Of course, it can also bring other things that are worth thinking about: not least, pleasure.”

Using this quote from the medical historian Esther Fischer Homberger, Nacha Vollenweider (Fußnoten/Footnotes, avant-verlag, 2017) opens a conversation about racism and colonialism. She also presents her current project, the graphic novel Zurück in der Heimat/Back at Home, with which she was among the finalists for the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung grant in 2020. The interview is conducted in German and hosted by Lea Hübner from the CIB Team.
