Digital Meetup with the Winner of the Comic Book Prize
On May 1 we have a special edition of the Comic Library Renate’s digital comics meetup. The meeting happens as part of the city-wide satellite events for this year’s Comic Invasion Berlin festival, in cooperation with the Berthold Leibinger Foundation.
The mentor this time is illustrator, comic artist and cartoonist Maren Amini, who, together with her father Ahmadjan Amini, received the 20,000 EUR Comic Book Award of the Berthold Leibinger Foundation in 2023. In her prize-winning volume “Ahmadjan and the Hoopoe”, the illustrator tells her father’s story, inspired by the tale of the “Conference of Birds” by Fariduddin Attar (1136-1220). The volume is expected to be around 200 pages and will be completed by the end of 2023. At the digital meetup, the award-winning artist will give an insight into her work and report on the joint development of the story for “Ahmadjan and the Hoopoe”. Afterwards, questions about the Berthold Leibinger Foundation Comic Book Prize can be asked.
Renate is a comics library and store founded in the 1990s in the heart of Berlin. Hosting two monthly meetups (once digital, the other one in the library), it is a place where people interested in making or reading comics come to meet, drink, talk and swap their self-published comics and zines.
Participation via video call upon APPLICATION:
Please send an email with the subject line ‘Stammtisch’ to the meetup coordinator Augusto (augusto [dot] paim [at] gmail [dot] com), he will send you the meeting link on the day of the event. Include in the email what you will be showing and what topics are of interest to you. You don’t have to show your face in the call if you don’t want to, but have your sketches or comics ready in digital form on your computer to be able to get feedback from other comic artists and from the mentor. This online meeting will not be recorded or broadcast publicly, it is only for you artists who are participating.
