Call for comic artists for a workshop & exhibition!

Calling all comic artists to take part in an experimental comic workshop and the following very wild outdoor exhibition this autumn’s #CIB21 throughout the city! Enter Treasure Hunt 2021: Hope Punk!

The selected artists write a comic story together in a facilitated one-day “Comic Writer’s Room” workshop. Each artist gets a part of the script that they’ll draw in the following weeks into a comic page. Each page of the story is printed out on big beautiful posters and delivered to our awesome partner locations – to be exhibited at street view during the #CIB21 satellites!

But wait, for sure there is more – what would an exhibition be without a twist? 😉
Instead of just giving out a map for the different pages of the story we thought to ourselves, nah, let’s do something else:

To read the full comic, the adventurers must follow the Path of the Comic! Each page will contain the geo-location for finding the next page – only by following the pages through the city will the adventurers—ahem, readers—get to read the whole story! There may even be collectibles on the way. Our team may have a slight obsession with zines and stickers

Both the workshop and the exhibition are curated and led by Henna Räsänen, a comic artist, workshop teacher and a CIB team member.

Be ready to experiment, to collaborate and, gasp, talk with other comic artists! Hot ink summer! Schaufenster is the new Museum! Jawohl und los!

This is a paid opportunity. The exact amount depends on the still-open funding.

Requirements for participation

  • Working languages: English & German. If you don’t speak either one, or only somewhat, please mention this in your application

  • For whom? Since the workshop is online, anyone can apply. Our festival is however focused on visibility for Berlin-based artists, so they will be prioritised. BIPoC & queers to the front! 🙂
  • Age limit: 18+

How to apply

  • Deadline for applications: June 5

  • Accepted folks will be informed a few days after deadline

  • Date of the Workshop: June 19

  • Date of the exhibition: during CIB satellites in August
