“Ahmadjan and the Hoopoe” – A Conversation with the Comic Book Prize Winning Duo

Maren Amini and her father Ahmadjan Amini are the 2023 recipients of the Berthold Leibinger Foundation’s 20,000 EUR Comic Book Prize. In their award-winning volume “Ahmadjan and the Hoopoe”, the illustrator, comic artist and cartoonist Maren Amini tells the story of her father, inspired by the tale of the “Conference of Birds” by Fariduddin Attar (1136-1220). The volume is expected to be around 200 pages and will be completed by the end of 2023. As part of ComicInvasion, the award-winning duo will show insight into their work and report on the joint development of the story on “Ahmadjan and the Hoopoe”. Journalist Augusto Paim will moderate the discussion.

Maren Amini was born in Hamburg in 1983, studied illustration and is a member of the Hamburg cartoonist group “Hamburger Strich”, as well as the Hamburg and Berlin cartoonist collective “SPRING”. The artist Ahmadjan Amini was born in 1953 in Malaspa in the Panjshir Valley, has lived in Hamburg since 1980 and studied computer graphics there for his diploma.

The Berthold Leibinger Stiftung Comic Book Prize has been awarded every year since 2015 for German-language comics that have not yet been published.
