ComicInvasionBerlin (CIB) will take place in 2020 as a special tenth-anniversary edition on May 16+17 2020 from 11-19:00, for the third time at the Museum for Communication (MfK) in Mitte and with the support of the Hauptstadtkulturfonds.
CIB will again be presenting the vibrant local comics scene with fresh comics from Berlin, readings, concerts, exhibitions and workshops. As always at CIB, admission will be free.
For 10 years, CIB has been advocating for better awareness and support of comics as the “ninth art”, and played a role in the creation of the Berlin Senate’s Comic Grant. We are thrilled that in the tenth year of our festival’s existence, the Berlin Comic Grant will be expanded from 16.000€ to 24.000€ for 2020.
Our featured country this year will be Argentina, following last year’s spotlight on Sweden.
CIB20 Comic Contest
In 2020, CIB is also organizing the 8th edition of its Comic Contest, inviting Berliners of all ages to participate by sending in their comic stories on the topic of “Resistance”. Selected comics will be exhibited during the festival and published in a book, and winners can also win book packages, workshops, and the drawing software Clip Studio Paint, as well as a mentorship for applying for the Comic Grant. More information on the Contest will follow soon.
CIB20 Satellite Week May 8-15
In the runup to the 2020 festival at the Museum for Communication, there will once again be a week full of smaller comics events at various comics locations throughout the city. More information to follow!
Comics presentations with Sign Language interpretation
As was already the case in 2019, CIB is committed to accessibility, and comics presentations and talks taking place at the Museum for Communication will be interpreted in German Sign Language.
Berliner Comic Fenster
Parallel to the preparation of #CIB20, the second season of “Berliner Comic Fenster” has begun airing on Berliner Fenster, the TV channel for U-Bahn users. Twice a week, comic stories by Berlin comic artists will be shown on U-Bahn TV screens, right up to the opening of the festival in May 2020. The stories from season one can be read here.
Detailed information about the ComicInvasionBerlin 2020 program will follow in the coming weeks.
